Most of the best mech games take place in the sci-fi genre & takes place in the future. Robot or Mech games are not new but have been developed from a very early stage of gaming. I played a lot of MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat in the early 2000s although the game was released even before my birth.

These mech games have some amazing physics behind speed, gravity & power. In a game, you will be controlling a mechanical robot or a suit. The suit can be 2, 3 or even 4 legged depends on the developers how they want to take the game.

But, now I’m going to list the best mech games of all time that you can play in 2021.

1. MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat

MechWarrior 2 31st Century Combat

MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat truly changed the face of Mech Games. It is still the best in the series. This was one of the first robot building games that you could play on PC.

As the Xbox live launched in 2002 this was one of the best games to play online multiplayer. the game was released even before Halo. So you know the impact it created on multiplayer gamers has been astonishing. The game played like a simulator.

Many people liked the game as the game felt like you yourself are controlling a machine. And this was truly new to the gaming industry. MechWarrior 1 was just the ground layout for the game.

The development of MechWarrior 2 had started so early that Activision had developed the game for MS-DOS but it was later ported to Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh, Sega Saturn & Sony Playstation.

The story of the game is held in the 31st century in the year 3057. There is a war in between the clans to come into constant power, so you will go head-on with other robots. There is also multiplayer where you can play with your friend and even involve in a battle against each other.

I had the most fun playing it on the PC but playing it on the console makes it an arcade-style game. No matter where you play MechWarrior 2 is the best mech game to play.

2. Titanfall 2

titanfall 2

I played Titanfall 2 and I’m sad about it. I had just bought a new PS4 Pro and the first game to be on sale was Titanfall 2 & I grabbed it even without thinking twice. I mean Titanfall 2 was available for $10, I didn’t think twice and bought the game.

Titanfall 1 had the best mechanic and a good storyline. It was one of the first multiplayer shooting robot games developed by Respawn & published by EA. With the success of Titanfall 1, no doubt EA was working on a sequel to the game. Just after 2 years after its release, Titanfall 2 was released.

The game has been taken very positively by mech game lovers. You will play as Jack Cooper with a personalized suit that has many abilities. The robots in this game are called “Titan” & you could summon your Titan whenever you need.

The Titan that you will be controlling is named BT-7274. The main task of yours is to complete the task that your fellow mates failed at and you will have to carry out the mission. You are the single most person with the titan.

You will deal in fire between other mechs, you can collect more batteries in the game to gain health. Titanfall 2 is one of the best mech RPGs that I’ve played in the modern era.

Released on every major gaming platforms – PS4, Xbox One & PC. Titanfall 2 is still the best mech games on steam.

3. Battletech

Battletech is a robot-based strategy game released in 2018 by Paradox Interactive. This turn-based game is one of the recent mech game that would be supporting Linux. Battletech has noteworthy graphics being a strategy game.

In the early days of my gaming, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 was the most played strategy game of all time. The most amazing this that Red Alert 2 gave me was its modern war. The same is applied here with Battletech.

You will be controlling your own mech, customize your own loadout & also upgrade your own ship. The game lets you choose your own random contract mission which could earn you upgrades. The best thing about the game is its storyline and graphics.

I get it, it is not an AAA, but the way the game makes the player visualize the cut scenes and dialogues is amusing. The mission would be like to take on an enemy field or take down a mech boss.

The game has been developed on Unity, & at first, it looked disappointing but it was not. It doesn’t make the game limiting. The developers have truly shown how Unity can be used to make a mesmerizing looking game.

You can play this game on Windows & Mac with Linux to follow. Battletech is the most advanced robot wars game that you can play.

(The game is usually on sale so make sure to grab it)

4. MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries

MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries

We have already talked about MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat & how it shaped the mech game development. But MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries is another game that should not be overlooked. Although the game says MechWarrior 2 but is a standalone expansion to the MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat.

The game was developed by Activision seeing the success of MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat. This 1996 game is all you want to play if you want to go back in time.

In the game, you would be controlling a group of a mech named Inner Sphere Mercenary Squad. You would lead them to battle & can choose any of the missions. You will also look over the finances and upgrades of these robots.

This is an old school game and definitely worth a play. If you like the robot simulator games then MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries is the one for you.

The game was initially released on DOS & Microsoft Windows.

5. Titanfall

Titanfall 1

Let’s talk about Titanfall it is the first installment in the Titanfall series. (Hoping more will come). The game has been one of the best iterations for robot fighting games. What charms me about the game is its graphics & multiplayer.

Titanfall games should be the best PC mech games that you should always have.

You can play multiplayer to fight other robots. Even in 2021, the multiplayer lobbies are getting filled. So the game isn’t dead and can enjoy it is present.

Respawn the developer studio behind Call Of Duty has crafted this futuristic-looking mech game for the first time. The game was taken positively by various gamers and looked forward to a sequel. Today too the mechanics of Titanfall can be observed on various Activision games.

Wall climbing in this game is so satisfying, it is just like playing the price of Persia but in the future. Although the single-player campaign is slow and short you would enjoy it.

As the game is old enough you can grab the game is various discounts. The game can be played on  PC, PS4, Xbox One & Xbox 360.

The game initially wasn’t supported on Xbox 360 but was ported by Bluepoint Games to support it.

6. Strike Suit: Zero

Strike Suit Zero

Strike Suit: Zero one of those games that are available on all major and minor platforms. But, I just wanna say that Strike Suit: Zero is one of the Best Nintendo Switch Mech Games.

The game is a flight combat game, meaning you will take on other mech opponents in the air. You will have the ability to fly and shoot. If you have played Star Wars games then you would be familiar with this game too. You will involve in Star Wars-like battle.

There are various missions that you lead the battle in. Plus you can modify your flights and mech to give more shooting and flying speed. These flying mechs do not particularly look like aircraft but just like robots.

If you are familiar with the transformers then this is what it looks like.

The game was released way back in 2013 but has delivered a good graphical game that still isn’t too old to play. You can play this game on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Classic Mac OS.

7. MechAssult

MechAssult is one of those early 2000s games that had worthful gameplay. And if you are reading this then you should probably be playing this game.

MechAssult was the first new mech game to support Xbox Live Online Multiplayer. Obviously, there was Mechwarrior 2: 31st-century combat but it was released in 1996 and had further added support to Xbox Live Multiplayer.

The game was exclusively developed for Xbox gaming consoles. The game had gone so vogue that the sequel named MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf released after 2 years of its initial release.

This arcade-style mech simulation gameplay very well that it had much buzz. You will be controlling a robot that could shoot, regenerate power & even fly to cross the hills. You will come across many obstacles and opponents that you should take down before continuing the mission.

You will be guided by a radio person who let you know about the tasks that you have to carry forward.

These were the best mech games that you can play today. No, doubt every gamer has different opinions upon ranking and likings. But my list of games still remains to be my favorite would like to play them from time to time.

I hope that there is another Titanfall game that would be releasing soon enough. But, there was one game that I had hope would come down to my list. Anthem the game that was so buggy and let down by storyline that I was obliged to not list it.

But, if I see any upcoming robot games that could have the potential to be listed in this article then I will surely update it. But, if you think I have missed a game then let me know about it in the comments below.
